DORAVILLE ASSOCIATE REFORMED PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH

EXCERPT FROM BETTER TOWNS SUBMISSION 1950

Our church was organized during the year 1836. As in the case of most new churches, there were only a few members. Services were held in a small building which, at the time, adequately served the needs. The church grew as the years passed and in 1936 when we celebrated our Centennial we had grown into one of the larger churches of the Synod. New and larger quarters had been provided to house the ever growing church and other religious activities, until today we have a membership of something like two hundred (200) members, most of whom are active in all phases of the Church.
Our capital investments amount to something like $35,000. Plans are now under way for additions and improvements to our present structure to more amply serve our growing needs. Listed below are some of the activities of the past year:
A calendar of all meetings for the week is published in the North De Kalb Record each week.
An attractive illustrated 'Weekly Bulletin announcing all activities for the current week is published and either mailed to members or
given out at services on each Sabbath.
Members of the Church observed "Week of Prayer" during the week of Nov. 11th. Services were held at the parsonage each afternoon.
The Annual Thanksgiving Day Dinner was held at the Hut on Dec. 1. This occasion was in honor of Mr. Calvin McElroy's 97th birthday. A large percentage of the members attended.
The Young Adult Class set the date for the annual Christmas banquet, December 15th.
Our Choir presented Handel’s "Messiah" on Sunday afternoon, Dec. 18th.
On Jan. 15th the District YPCU met at the church. 92 visiting delegates attended. Supper was served in the Hut.
